While somewhat dated, this story gives a decent overview of divisions in the energy lobby. But it's miles wide and not very deep -- I don't get a good understanding of the negotiations across sectors. When it comes to sourcing, the reporter barely got outside Washington, which makes it a stodgy read.

The article offers an informative and revealing sketch of the current energy policy debate, the ongoing legislation efforts, and the efforts of energy providers which one finds lobbying for their interests. The NYT presents a readable account of the forces trying to influence U.S. energy policy.

I believe some energy legislation is necessary and desirable. Long term interests of society should guide this legislation: the use of renewable power must effectively be increased.
