Oh, well. The value of this article probably could have been stated in the title. Indeed, I also question what Newsweek editors were thinking. But the author could have CONTACTED them to find out. Large portions of the post simply cite the Newsweek article. As such, this post is merely an alert to read the article.

If you're going to report on a well-established blog, you might at least do a little legwork. Or even linkwork. The author should have contacted the Newsweek editors, cited less from the article, provided URLs to support his claims, and generally done more journalism.

First, from a theological perspective, the whole thing about “666” being a “mark of the beast” is inherently suspect, and dismissed as nonsense by most scholars.

Provide the link to the scholars please. At least cite the source from Revelations, 13:18: “If anyone has insight, let him calculate the number of the beast, for it is man’s number. His number is 666.”
