Reporters Without Borders came out with their 2008 freedom of the press rankings and the U.S. is down considerably from last year. The 50 states received 36th place out of 173 countries of the world, but including the U.S.’s territories it was a low 119th. Full Story »

Six "person on the campus" viewpoints, with good questions asked. Contains a link to the referenced Reporters Without Borders report, which backs up the facts cited. I estimate that this is about half fact and half opinion, although I detected one inaccuracy: Novak claimed that "the U.S. has fallen 9 places since last year". The report indicates the U.S. rose from 48th to 36th place. Just a little narrative at the end might have introduced some useful context. Why has the U.S. fall in the rankings since 2002?
I am hopeful that the change is because other countries have become better, but I do lament the fall of the U.S.
