Tariq Ali is an expert on the region, and writes well here with information gathered from knowing and talking to the people, as well as U.S. soldiers returned from the occupation. This should be a required read for Obama and for all the bottom-up democracy advocates who need to help him out.

I attended a Tariq Ali talk in Seattle; he is very well spoken.
