The incoming Obama administration plans to explore a more regional strategy to the war in Afghanistan -- including possible talks with Iran -- and looks favorably on the nascent dialogue between the Afghan government and "reconcilable" elements of the Taliban, according to Obama national security advisers. The news is largely conjecture and rumors, but it suggests some rethinking is under way. Getting bogged down in an already lost war is not the way to start a new administration.

Karzai seems not in control, and corrupt. Taliban and militias abound for defense, drug money, and filling the rice bowl. It is a morass. And what the h is NATO doing in SE asia? There is no purely military solution.
