Obama reviews Bush orders on stem cells, drilling

John Podesta said the president can use such orders to move quickly without waiting for Congress to act, highlighting the extraordinary powers a president can wield beyond signing legislation approved by Congress. While the election has dominated the news the last couple of weeks, the Bush administration has moved on a number of fronts--more than indicated in this piece. A new administration can do a blanket revocation of such executive orders within 30 days, as Bush did with many of Clinton's late-term orders. However, because this administration is doing them so early, it will take more time to reverse them in January.

This aspect of the lame-duck administration has received very little coverage. So I'm glad to see anything on it, even if it is a little limited.
