Reading P.J. O'Rourke made me feel very old. Listen, kids, let me tell you a story. There was a time when O'Rourke was funny, wrote well and wrapped it all up in exceedingly sharp analysis. But that was then.

Kelly Garrett's "too many strawman arguments" comment, below, is right on target.

a difficult piece to review. a eulogy sounded in despair and disgust. points are made about what conservatism in our politics has lost in o'rourke's view. it's not possible in the current politics to know how widespread his view was. sometimes his points could come from either political tilt (" ...everybody wants his or her children to respect freedom exercise responsibility be honest get educated,...", or perhaps recently none. fascinating tho.

Okay, I read 90% of it before my eyes glazed over and made the exercise impossible to continue. What about "We blew it because we were often WRONG, " instead of "We blew it because we weren't careful enough."

PJ O'Rourke is a dying breed within the conservative movement... he thinks. And, as usual, he's a hell of writer.

It would do Republicans well to consider what O'Rourke has to say here. It is in their own interest, and the interest of the nation that the GOP jettison the far right and get back into the game as rational players.
