It’s not that I want to rain on anyone’s parade; but you see Mr. Obama is cut from the same cloth as that inner circle which surrounds him and will also make up the lion’s share of his administration. That inner circle is personified in the appointment of Congressman Rahm Emanuel as Obama’s Chief-of-Staff. Emanuel is a member of the New Democrat Coalition (NDC). Now the NDC is a group of center-right pro-business Congressional Democrats affiliated with the Democratic Leadership Conference (DLC). The DLC works hand-in-glove with their Republican counterparts to push through and pass such legislation (NAFTA) as those providing President Bush (and Clinton before him) with “fast-track” trade authority so that they may bypass efforts by labor, environmentalists and other public interest groups to promote fairer trade policy. That kind of change is not change; it’s just more of the same old, same old.
