The graphic is very useful, and is the only place where the data source is identified. The sidebar audio interview of the author seems at least as informative as the article. The context is OK, complete with a hard luck story. Based on CES data and unemployment, this story has value only as a short term economic indicator.

The media spend way too much time reporting from the seasonally adjusted BLS establishment survey, and not enough from the population survey. My own charts of BLS data showed us solidly heading toward employment troubles in July of 2007. Where were these guys?
