Virginia Voting: Broken Machines, No Paper Ballots

As for her group's thwarted legal challenge, Browne-Dianis said the judge was sympathetic to the case during Monday's hearing. "He himself described waiting two and half hours, at age 85, to vote absentee. ... He said we need to go to the state legislature and get early voting, and that there is no remedy for voters for this election. And so we are monitoring the polls." Full Story »

A spot report on the voting problems at one polling location in Richmond, this story successfully gives us the broader frame about voting policy and litigation in the state of Virginia.

Very brief report about delays at the polls in Virginia, citing a single poll watcher as the only source. No additional sources are cited and little context is provided, leading me to question the story's fairness. While the facts may be correct, we have no way of verifying them, and we do not know where they fit in the larger picture. As a result, I will look for more definitive reporting on this story before forming any judgment about it.

While HuffPo has some good writers, it's hardly my preferred source for political news, nor is Daily Kos, nor for that matter, the National Review Online. While the Huffington Post ran a glowing report of Obama campaign activities in the urban areas of Northern Virginia (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/peter-j-ognibene/virginia-vet-sees-obama-s_b_140969.html as did the Guardian (mistakenly calling Manassas "the heart of Virginia) ...
