Record number of voters expected to deluge polls

What is uncommon about Tuesday's contest is the sheer number of voters expected to descend on more than 7,000 election jurisdictions across the country. Voter registration numbers are up 7.3 percent from the last presidential election.

Record turnout has been the story for several weeks, since early voting started. So there's little new here except that it has continued, with only minor glitches so far, into election day.

I live in a tiny town in the California coastal mountains. Poll workers there at 7:30 this morning say they can't believe the turnout already. They've never seen anything like it.
