The article is a snapshot of what Obama did say, the context is hard to understand as it confirms in print what the spokesman said to explain it. away. I do wish it had discussed more of the interview.

The statement I found illogical all together was "So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can. It’s just that it will bankrupt them because they’re going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted. That will also generate billions of dollars that we can invest in solar, wind, biodiesel, and other alternative energy approaches."....How are the utilities going to Produce Billions if they are Bankrupted as he predicts in the first sentance. Investors will simply go eleswhere if they cannot work profitably here in the US. Right now as he mentions China is building coal plants weekly, many western engineers are there now becomming wealthy helping them. The notion of Taxing one utility heavily to subsidize others is unworkable. The heavily taxed industry will simply shut down or refuse to upgrade equipment until the Government Pays for it...,Mr. Obama has VERY Fuzzy Math.
