Ms. Wellington gives a substantial, neutral overview of the candidates' energy policies. The useful links are vital to follow for a greater understanding of the complexities, as the article is too short to give all the details. Omitted is the significant extension of wind and solar tax credits sneaked into the $700b. Wall St. bailout. Nuclear waste is covered well, and destruction by coal mining is included, but solar and wind also have habitat consequences .

It is politically unfeasible to talk about the elephant in the US; cheap, easy to get, high quality oil and coal are in decline, and no alternative comes close to giving the density needed to sustain our wasteful lifestyles. And their development will take all the capital available for several generations.
