High Turnout May Add to Problems at Polling Places

In Ohio, Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner sued the maker of the touch-screen equipment used in half of her state’s 88 counties after an investigation showed that the machines “dropped” votes in recent elections when memory cards were uploaded to computer servers.

As an extra precaution, Ms. Brunner required all counties to provide paper ballots to anyone who wanted to use them. Full Story »

Nothing totally new here for me, but this is a concise, iinformative article on the important topic of voting equipment. Concerns about the whether voting machines will function and paper ballots will be counted have been well covered in the past week, and this article follows suit.

Interesting report about the recent shift away from electronic voting machine back to paper ballots. The article provides reasonable factual evidence from multiple sources, such as Election Data Services and the New York University School of Law. The headline doesn't match the content of the article all that well, though.

This story does a good job of providing one a feel for the lingering, or perhaps growing, mess we have in ensuring votes are counted. However, with few comprehensive statistics, it's difficult to tell just how big the problem is. The story relies principally on isolated anecdotes.
