Mr. Parry, as he often is, is verbally blistering while remaining rational in making his case. Among the many scarecrow lies McCain and Palin have planted around Obama -- "pals with terrorists," "socialism," "Arab sympathizer," "Muslim," et cetera -- the most effectively analyzed and dismissed are the "redistributionist" and "big taxer of Americans" scarecrows. The Teddy Roosevelt quotes alone make this op-ed well worth perusing.

The political success candidates for the most important position in the world have had by repeatedly chanting scarecrow words (that is, words meant to scare voters away from a candidate) that are not only lies, but would be empty charges even if true, illustrates the greatest American need for the survival and flourishing of democracy -- greater education in critical reasoning.
