(Video) Jon Stewart began his show last night by skewering CNN for fact-checking a "Saturday Night Live" skit in which Fred Armisen (playing Barack Obama) claimed to have done "nothing" since taking office. I'm going to nitpick here and say that while this segment was funny and insightful, it reflects a problem in the news cycle that I find bothersome. If you look in the bottom right corner of the clips that fuel Stewart's critique, you'll notice that almost all of them come from daytime programming. Given that TV news during work hours has substantially lower viewership than nighttime news, I question the relevance of this piece. I don't take issue with the contradictions Stewart points out—some are very clever and worth exposing—but I wonder how Stewart's routine would change if he focused more on the TV news that most people watch.

No limits to how hokey The Situation Room can be. Still, I'm surprised CNN didn't see this coming.
