Cover this! Inside the nastiest ’08 rumors

Now, as the campaign enters its last week, partisans have deluged reporters with e-mails and vented on blogs about why the media is suppressing stories about one candidate or the other. While Smith misses a few I've read elsewhere: McCain used government property and personnel for a family reunion, McCain met with Chilean dictator Pinochet, McCain killed somebody in a car crash and it was covered up by the admirals--I haven't posted them for the same reason. In the story about Chile, the blogger added a denial by the U.S. ambassador at the time denying his alleged role in setting up the meeting. While I respect the blogger's honesty, he undercut his whole story. I'm glad to see Politico agrees with me!

While the McCain campaign likes to credit the Obama campaign for all these, I have seen no connection. They appear to be bloggers who, frustrated that Obama refuses to hit back at McCain/Palin nastiness, do it themselves.
