It;'s really pop psychology. Might have been better had a few specific examples been included.

It seems to be more a moral essay than traditional journalism.

I agree with the basic insights about 'quality of life' vs 'standard of living', but I don't think peak oil is going to cancel all the Caribbean vacations.
