The Vote Grab: Voter purge could swing result to McCain

In the first few days of early voting in Florida, 5,000 voters have already been rejected, mostly because of typos and bureaucratic blunders in the spelling of their names.

Non-match discrepancies could result in hundreds of thousands of US citizens - perhaps millions - losing their right to vote. Even those who are allowed to remain on the register may be required to vote using a provisional ballot, which may or may not be counted. Full Story »

This borrows a little too heavily from one of it's sources. Also I am suspicious of some claims. For example, weren't the 5,000 "rejected" given provisional ballots? Not enough depth to truly prove it's claims.

It is normal for something like 10% of voters to move each year. Saying that they have been purged without looking into how many of them have re-registered elsewhere is not good journalism.

While this relies in large part on earlier reporting, it does add some recent facts--such as the number of voters turned away in early voting. This is a story that is largely being ignored in the U.S. outside of the New York Times. However, the report that the Democratic Party is ignoring it is incorrect. They have lawyers on the ground already and have been watching it for quite a while.
