The Lie Machine

GOP operatives are running a secret campaign to kill health care reform, and it's based on Karl Rove's old playbook

Far from representing a spontaneous upwelling of populist rage, the protests were tightly orchestrated from the top down by corporate-funded front groups as well as top lobbyists for the health care industry. Full Story »

This is an interesting and well written read. It mentions two of the five families that have funded many of the conservative groups and added major corporations. This is an expose' of the more successful than we think efforts to stop health insurance changes.

Finally! Real journalism! A story which names the four culprit organizations organizing and financing those outrageous anti-healthcare “spontaneous” demonstrations. If all the news media practiced this kind of investigative journalism—and they should—rather than their 24/7 coverage of the NO-NOs, America would end up being first in quality healthcare, rather than thirty-ninth. As has been the case since 2000, big money and special interests win; Real Americans lose.

With right-wing lying, distorting ,hooligan scoundrels in our midst, why are we worried about foreign terrorists?

Dickinson ties together the threads of a complex web of Republican/Right-wing deceit, misinformation and diabolical dirty tricks to illuminate and provide a cohesive and comprehensive view of exactly how this faction of American politics operates. It is a sad but all too familiar pattern that leaves most logical, moral and ethical people scratching their heads in amazement that they are able to retain any political power whatsoever. Kudos to Mr. Dickinson for a strong expose.

This story does not square with the fact that Nancy Pelosi says 2010 is going to be a very tough year for Democrats. You can't accomplish that with astroturf. The article also fails to mention the Democrat tactic of changing the bill continuously so that citizens are never quite sure what is in it. It also fails to mention that similar health care measures in Maine, Tennessee, and Massachusetts are all failing due to costs going up instead of down. It also left out that the last time a health care overhaul was tried Bill Clinton got a Republican Congress for his troubles. The story also tries "the Bush was spending a lot and Republicans didn't complain much" tactic failing to mention that the deficit has tripled or ... More »

As a Republican leaning voter I applaud this sort of misinformation. Come the 2010 election the Democrats will not know what hit them. "But The Rolling Stones said it was all astroturf." Heh.

Yes. It gets out the underlying facts on events that have a significant impact on society.

I attended two Town Hall meetings given by a local Congressman. The effect was very disturbing. Civil society was, in essence undermined. The Congressman wanted to respond to serious concerns, and logically refute them. But the loud intrusive rudeness of some in the audience created a circus atmosphere where he was under constant attack. I think the problem is that these people are sincerely upset, but they have been confused and muddled and sent out as an attack-force. I ... More »

It is quality journalism, as the writer gives complete background on the organizers of the Tea Party movement. Mr. Rove is present everywhere in this effort, merely putting his old friend Dick Armey forward as the organizer. Mr. Armey is well-nurtured by his insurance industry investments.
