Foreign adoptees are living in legal limbo

County officials have acknowledged putting Stephanie Zizzo and at least four other adoptees born in other countries, including Mexico and Kenya, in legal limbo by not resolving their immigration status before adoption.

A well written and researched report on the complications of citizenship and adoption. The case of Stephanie Zizzo is a very effective illustration of the citizenship and immigration laws discussed. Good sourcing, with appropriate experts.

Given the preference of many infertile couples to adopt foreign-born children and the length of time these adoptions have been commonplace, it's unconscionable that family courts have put so many families to be in legal jeopardy. Adoption issues are widely underreported and often not well understood by the reporters. This is a good story.

Interesting story about a glitch in the bureaucratic nightmare which is immigration policy and actions of adoption agencies. Scratching of the surface on large topic.
