Rejecting reform again would be folly, Dole says

Fifteen years ago, Bob Dole decided it was better to kill health care reform than to hand a Democratic president a historic victory.

Since then, praise be, he’s reformed his thinking.

In Kansas City this week, the former Republican Senate majority leader and presidential candidate added his voice — still strong at age 86 — to the push to help all Americans afford good health care.

This is a refreshing read. It covers what former Senator Dole said including 15 year old comment that he did not deny. This is an interesting story and typical of former Senator Dole comments and opinion.

This nicely written piece describes Senator Dole's remorse at having passed on the opportunity to reform our health care system back during the Clinton administration because Bill Kristol didn't want to give the Democrats a victory. Now, it seems, the good Senator believes that the good of the country trumps party loyalties. Of course, he's had affordable health insurance the whole time...

I say better late than never, and good for Senator Dole. Sadly, of course, the rallying cry for McConnell and his cronies during this go-round remains "to Hell with the people/country -- it's all about winning," so Mr. Dole -- and the rest of us -- still may not see effective health reform enacted.
