Real America

Sarah Palin caused a bit of a flap earlier in the week when she told a North Carolina crowd that she loved visiting the “pro-America” parts of the country, leading WaPo’s Juliet Eilperin to quip, “No word on which states she views as unpatriotic.”

This is a more thoughtful take on this whole flap than most I've read--and I posted at least one myself. While I'm not quite sure where Joyner came out on the whole issue, he does explore it pretty thoroughly. Personally, I think the diversity Joyner describes is the "real" America. Which is why it seems silly to say something like that.

This opinion piece has considerable journalistic merit. Living in this region myself, I can confirm that the DC suburbs are totally different from the rest of the states they are in. Palin obviously knows this too, as does Obama though he expresses it in a derogatory way against the non-elites. Well written and sourced.
