A vivid snapshot of outcast life in Tijuana on the Mexico side of the border. The reporter clearly spent time with this group of deportees, smuggler assistants and addicts, and gained their trust, in order to report such specific details. This article makes the "border", often mentioned so often in the media that it loses its meaning, an intense, vibrant, tension-filled place. It's both an extreme and realistic portrayal; I'd also like some statistics to give life here some context: What do both the Mexican and U.S. authorities (some good insight included in the article) think about this population? How many people are living right on the border?
