A brief summary and reasoned opinion of a complex issue, the headline reference to nuclear weapons may be melodramatic (even if valid).

The EU is courting Russia for access to energy resources. The notion of Russia joining the EU is speculative, but closer economic links will be paired with closer political links and a weakening of any EU/USA alliance.
