This opinion piece has modest journalistic merit. The author provides his speculations, but with little factual basis. The author quotes no sources to support his speculations. He is ignorant about the huge new oil discoveries off Brazil, and is unaware of the mostly untapped oil reserves in North America, which dwarf those in the Middle East. Nor is he aware of the advances (such as organic panels) in solar energy, which is becoming competitive with coal and oil. So this piece amounts to uninformed guesses by the author.
