McCain tussles with Palin over whipping up a mob mentality

With his electoral prospects fading by the day, Senator John McCain has fallen out with his vice-presidential running mate about the direction of his White House campaign.

McCain has become alarmed about the fury unleashed by Sarah Palin, the moose-hunting “pitbull in lipstick”, against Senator Barack Obama. Cries of “terrorist” and “kill him” have accompanied the tirades by the governor of Alaska against the Democratic nominee at ... Full Story »

This is a poorly sourced story so it is difficult to determine whether it is factual with regard to McCain and Palin's relationship. It appears to me to be more like gossip than sound journalism.

There isn't much evidence for the claim that Palin is engaging in tactics that are more aggressive than McCain and his campaign want them to be. While it's an interesting idea, I don't find this article entirely compelling.

The article gives a factual recounting of the recent problems the McCain campaign has had with rapid followers at rallies, many of them apparently whipped up by Sarah Palin. The interpretive part -- that Palin is setting herself up for 2012 -- seems well-founded, although nobody in the Palin camp is likely to confirm that. What the article doesn't mention is the baggage following Palin out of Alaska, including the so-called "Troopergate" report recently. By the time this campaign is over, Palin's reputation in Alaska may be entirely different than it is today.

The loosely attributed views provide a number of hypotheses. A key point not injectected is: If McCain thinks the attacks are too much, why does he not kill the attack ads? As it is, it looks like cynical "good cop, bad cop" campaigning. The hate attack goes out, and McCain simultaneously tries to pose as the good cop who "doesn't approve." So, I think the author missed the underlying strategy.

Palin in 2012? Romney is even less of an airhead. Huckabee is even less of a religious queer. McCain might not yet have died from cancer. New candidates will be inspired to run, given that even Palin could be considered a candidate. The speculation is wildly premature for an obviously disasterous candidate.

I agree with the conclusions of this article especially that Palin maybe acting in self interest as much as anything. I find it interesting that we have heard little to nothing about the disagreements (reported in this article) between McCain/Palin in the US media.

This could be a much better article if there were some sources inside the McCain campaign who were willing to talk anonymously about real divisions, if they exist, between McCain and Palin over the smear campaign they have started against Obama. McCain's contradictory public statements and quotes from Republican outsiders is hardly convincing evidence.

This article presents useful insight into the machinations of the McCain campaign. It makes allegations about dissension that are hard to vette, but if they are true are highly germane.

This is a typical British opinion piece, showing little knowledge of the American media. The major media, almost all allied with the Democrats, are doing the attacking on McCain and Palin, far worse than anything reported on here, and ignoring the serious flaws in Obama and Biden. How much have you read about Tony Rezko singing? The New York Times has hardly mentioned him, while putting repeated lies about McCain and Palin on their front page. So now they want to create an argument between McCain and Palin. No journalistic value.

Nails McCain and the truth. American went thru this with Bush/Rove/Cheney an it worked. Hopefully we are wiser and thus the Poll show and we will Vote with the facts. Also the internet has addressed every correct statement and LIe from both McCain and Obama. We have a clear look at those LIES and we will go with the Man who is HONEST and not run by Rove/GOP/Davis lies
