Obama and McCain on Health Care: Right or Responsibility

The way the candidates responded to Tom Brokaw's question on health care during this evening's debate says a great deal about their philosophy on government.

Obama says health care should be considered a right, echoing the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights. He might actually try to mandate access to health care through law. Ms. Schmall takes only three paragraphs to show her misunderstanding of McCain's healthcare plan. She fails to explain Obama's at all, except to mention he considers healthcare a right. Skip this half-baked, unexplored distinguishing of rights and responsibilities.
