Capitalism trumps democracy

The marriage of American capitalism and democracy has always been a Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee affair — stormy and erratic since its hasty wedding.

American democracy is defined by vesting government power in systems and rules, not in individuals and whims. We have been, as John Adams wrote, "an empire of laws, and not of men" — until now.

At the center of this controversial op-ed lies the thesis that capitalism, long in a "stormy and erratic marriage" with democracy, has "murdered democracy" via the tyrannical control (economic czar) of a socialist bailout of our private financial systems. Though certainly over the top, this op-ed will shockingly jump-start the thought processes of even the most sheepish and brain dead among us.

The opinion piece looks at the difference between democratic rule under law versus autocratic authority of an economic czar. The perspective is important to preserving democracy and the rule of law.
