The writer demolishes John McCain's contention that an Iraq'style "surge" is needed in Afghanistan, and argues that the continuing adventure in Iraq works against the US-led program in Afghanistan. Personally, I agree with Zbigniew Brzezinski that there is no military solution to the Afghan insurgency. This is also Iran's position, and Iran warns that the US is risking pushing Pakistan over the brink.
