It is refreshing to see a seasoned journalist make the front page of Huffington Post, usually over-filled with writing efforts of actors and other artistic wannabe journalists. Carl Bernstein explores what he calls the devolution of honest, honorable, country-first McCain into dishonest, dishonorable, winning-election-first McCain, centering around McCain's lies and pick of Palin. This is important food for thought.

Mr. Bernstein (rightly) takes McCain to task for his VP choice and feels that that one decision undermines any assertions of a code of conduct McCain has previously made.

Bernstein seems to have bought McCain's earlier posturing and makes no mention of the Keating Five corruption where McCain escaped censure because a Republican chair was trying to excuse McCain and blame it all on the Democrats involved. Bernstein makes some valid critical assessments of Palin, but stays away from the story that McCain opposed the choice of Palin, and she was imposed by the party regressive operatives to whom McCain now seems to kowtow.

All I can say is that this is a very good story, written by a very experienced and honest writer. It is just incredible what is happening in this campaign for president. McCain is acting like a man who has truly lost his marbles. I think his demeanor at the debate shows he is unfit to be president, or to continue being a senator for that matter. He is an angry man near the end of his life and cannot be trusted to do the right things anymore. I almost feel sorry for Sarah Palin and you can't blame her for wanting to accept McCain's offer to be his vp. However, her record shows her to be a very ultra conservative person with the kind of faults in her personal life that has doomed a lot better politicians than she is. I couldn't ... More »
