Palin's Words Raise Red Flags

The alarm bells should be clanging and warning lights flashing. You wouldn't put an unqualified pilot in the cockpit of a jetliner. The potential for catastrophe is far, far greater with an unqualified president. Full Story »

Bob Herbert of the New York Times takes Palin to pieces, and in demolishing her entirely suggests the Republicans may need to choose a candidate for VP who is actually qualified for the job. That is, unless Palin has been carefully concealing her intellectual talents and has yet to display them to the voters.

By selecting as their vice president nominee a person who cannot string together two coherent sentences, the radical right provides a glaringly crystal clear example of their absolute disdain and complete contempt for America and the American people. It’s as if poor Palin is some sort of perverse practical joke the radical right is trying to play on this country. As the election draws closer, it becomes more and more obvious how truly inept the dynamic duo of McCain and Palin really are. My God! You can’t make this stuff up!

Something of a critique of Palin's performance on the national stage to date. As Mr. Herbert states:"The press has an obligation to hammer away at Ms. Palin’s qualifications.", now if they will just do that with all candidates (consistently) perhaps respect for the MSM could be restored.

I am getting pretty tired of reading this same quote from the Couric interview. It it pretty frightening to think we could actually elect somebody else to high office who can't construct a basic sentence in her native tongue. But, if that was the only stumble she made, it could just be--as Herbert fairly points out--a beginner's mistake. He is also correct that the McCain campaign should give us a chance to find out. In fairness, Senator Biden is prone to what the press calls "gaffes." He is also a professor of constitutional law with a long history of legislative accomplishment. So we have more yardsticks to measure him by than we have for the relatively unkonwn Governor Palin.

A totally one sided trashing of Palin by a well known partisan of the left. Really quite comical considering how empty the qualifications of Obama are and considering that Biden is a shallow windbag.

This opinion piece has no journalistic merit. The author repeats the standard left-wing talking points, and ignores the far more serious mistakes by her opponent, Sen. Biden, whose daily gaffes and errors and constant contradiction of Obama's positions, are far more serious than anything replorted here.

A good op-ed piece that again raises the question of what makes Sarah Palin qualified to fulfill the role of vice president -- or even president -- of the US, using Palin's awful performance in the interview with Couric as the backdrop. He points out, correctly, that the media should be scrutinizing her much more on this issue, and that this scrutiny would likely be to her advantage of this interview performance was just an anomaly. (Of course, we all know it isn't.)

I think Herbert gets it. It is frightening to think this country, so damaged already by the current president, could possibly, even remotely, fall into the hands of Sarah Palin!
