Obama up against religious prejudice

What is happening, I think, is this: Religious prejudice is becoming a proxy for racial prejudice. In public at least, it's not acceptable to express reservations about a candidate's skin color, so discomfort about race is sublimated into concerns about whether Obama is sufficiently Christian. Since Kristof wrote a story that has been twisted into a lie by right wing distortionists, he feels responsible to address clearly the issue of religious bigotry in the presidential race. The opinion is at times informative and at times thought provoking, with a new perspective.
