the story begins with poignant personal stories, but branches out to summarize what has been happening in mountaintop removal of coal in appalachia. what is illustrated here is an excellent example of how competing interests including the always greater energy needs, the need for jobs, and the need to protect the people affected by all of these. then how those lobbies lead to the ineffectual regulations of congress and our watchdog agencies ending in the loss of overall environment and human life and health and safety. i would have liked more info on the numbers here, and comments from sources within energy industries.

the recent health care reform debate will be it seems another example of the competing interests within our country and citizens causing a failure in progress in creating a gov't which can work for the needs of all of us.
