There He Goes Again

In what has become an ongoing theme, the McCain-Palin campaign has released yet another ad that makes false claims about Barack Obama's tax plan. The ad, which was released on Sept. 18 and which the campaign says will air nationally, claims that Obama will raise income taxes and will tax "life savings, electricity and home heating oil." As we keep saying, Obama says he'll raise income taxes and capital gains taxes only for couples earning more than ... Full Story »

This story only checks the accuracy of facts. It doesn't provide context. It doesn't ask why the media continue to put these ads on the air. It doesn't ask what consequences there are for either the McCain campaign or the media that broadcast these false ads.

Excellent piece that exposes false statements in McCain's latest political ad. The article is thorough, well-documented and much-needed in a highly-polarized pre-election climate. Apparently, this type of low-ball, deceptive propaganda is becoming the norm for the McCain campaign, is this is the second ad where they have misrepresented their opinions as facts about Obama's tax plans. It's a real shame to see a man that used to be known as a straight shooter abandon his ethics for the sake of winning a campaign.

FactCheck debunks another campaign ad from the McCain campaign indicating that it is not ok for McCain to present his opinion as facts. The article cites interviews, newspaper stories, Obama's written plans, to point out that McCain's claims are unfounded, unsupported and that McCain keeps repeating distortions (lies). This story indicates that Obama could make the same claims as McCain but Obama has not made unjustifiable claims regarding McCain's economic plan.

The article provides a thorough and well referenced critique of another example of Republican McCain ads that demonstrate that the straight talk express had morphed to the expressly strayed talk. One more aspect not mentioned is the extreme costs of any war advocated that would either raise current taxes, or, if not paid for currently, would raise taxes on our children. Such wild war wastages have been key to the Republican fiscal mismanagement of the last painful 7 years, and should not be ignored.

Another good story documenting the McCain's efforts to create a false perception of Obama. They hope each statement they raise will raise a question in the mind of the voter that will come back in the voting booth.

So this guy is an Obama partisan. Obama's tax and economic proposals are Robin Hood stupidities and it is not credible that they will actually be enacted. Obama's web site is extremely vague about what he is actually proposing. If he only raises the taxes on dividends and capital gains over $250,000 this would let a lot of people out and others would rearrange their affairs to keep below the threshold. Since a lot of dividends and capital gains go to untaxable pension funds it's hard to see what would be left to tax if he actually did that.
