If John McCain thinks that "the fundamentals of our economy are strong," then that phrase is effectively meaningless. Unemployment is at a five-year high, consumer spending is predicted to decline this fiscal quarter for the first time in 17 years, and we are currently undergoing the worst housing bust since the Great Depression. A rebuttal to McCain’s sweetness and roses statement about our current robust economy taken right out of Bush’s playbook. However, most of its information is retreaded stuff that anyone paying even a modicum of attention to the news already knows. Still, success is in the eyes of beholder. From the point of view of special interests, the Bush administration is a raging success. If you’re a billionaire, this economy is one of the strongest on record. Unfortunately, if you fall into the vast unwashed group like the rest of us, the question about a possible recession has already been answered, and for us the DC in Washington DC has come to mean, "Don’t Care."
