Very informative piece on an issue that, while not particular 'sexy', is very important. Great sourcing from Congressional Dems, GOP, budget watchdogs, etc.

Excellent unbiased story regarding the effect of the "pay as you go" baseline on whether the candidates' tax proposals are seen as increasing or decreasing the deficit -- as well as a comparison of the fiscal effect of each candidate's proposal.

This article was a balanced and comprehensive overview of the budgetary challenges with a taste of the political context. Of course this article has to be judged by its source as well; would the article be published in one of one of the many Daily Fishwrappers - it would hardly be noticed nestled between public notices and foreclosures. Fortunately it was where it belongs with contextual clarity as to partisan efforts without lingering - and at the same time making the case for nimble dynamic policies and almost warning against the political expedient static approach to the economy and National fiscal health. Putting this information into a generally digestible form was artful.
