This article is specific to Utah's politics, but shows one instance of the influence exerted by lobbyists for the mortgage giants, Freddie and Fannie. The former aides to the Republican senator became lobbyists, and his son worked for one of them. Three Democratic senators received more than the Utah official. We are assured by his spokesperson, "Contributions do not influence the senator's votes." All the money aimed at influencing officials came to an end with the federal takeover.
