Protecting workers from discrimination is a fairly uncontroversial idea. So opponents of the bill, who include John McCain, insisted that, while they're in favor of equal pay, the new law would unleash a flood of frivolous litigation. Derek is correct that this is the type of issue the campaigns should be focusing on instead of lipstick on pigs. The article rightly points out that it was an important moment when Lilly Ledbetter introduced Obama and working women across America applauded her for her battle for equal pay. Many of us have followed what happened with the Supreme Court decision and then the Republican filibuster. This is an excellent article that makes great points using reasonable non partisan language. It was an understated moment of the DNC to have her introduce Obama and I felt he was embracing the average middle class American and recognizing our struggles.
