Top Ten Most Disturbing Facts and Impressions of Sarah Palin

Choosing Palin has been called alternately a brilliant stroke that reinforces McCain's maverick image and a desperate, irresponsible "Hail Mary" pass in the face of an almost sure defeat in November. The fundamental question being raised: Why Palin? True, her personal narrative has lots of color: former fisherman, NRA hunter, mother of five, small-town mayor, short-term governor of a state with a small population, etc. But that does not qualify her to be a ... This is an interesting story. Ten points of concern after less than one week. Wow!

Very informative, albeit very disturbing, article quoting various sources--including local Alaska media--about the real Sarah Palin. The section describing the secret conservative cabal's wildly supportive reaction to "McCain's VP choice" is neocon smoke-blowing hiding the fact that she is actually the cabal's selection, which gave McCain an offer he couldn't refuse. That McCain didn't want her as VP is amply demonstrated by his nonverbal behavor--expressions and physical posturing--during her introductory speech. Next time the sound bite is repeated, watch McCain, not Palin.

This is good because it provides information in a format that is easy to skim through - and you only want to skim because after the first two or three it becomes sickening. The exploitation of the voter by the manipulative choice of this person for VP is glaring. The GOP is so entrenched in their parallel universe that they are ready to shove yet another Dick Cheney down our throats.

While negative, this story is built from both Democratic and Republican sources. It also contains information that can be considered neutral, as it is purely factual. While the story is negative, it omits such details as the recent photos circulating widely of Palin in a bikini holding a rifle and Palin in platform stiletto heels wearing an extremely short, ?leather skirt and a very low-cut, shiny top, photos which appear un-presidential in the extreme. It also fails to include information about her attempts to have books banned from the Wasilla library, her association with an Alaskan separatist organization, her falling approval rates, and her ultra-conservative church, which is connected with an organization written-up by the ... Story is effective online magazine journalism that appeals to its target audience in ways to motivate them to spread the word against Sarah Palin. Why, then, my mediocre rating? This is "niche journalism" appealing to a target audience of progressives and, as such, is not the type of journalism that NewsTrust.net is programmed to assess for fairness. In fact, if the story were fair and balanced, noting strong points as well as well-researched weak ones, the target audience would erupt in disagreement. AlterNet's "concept" (a specific magazine term, by the way) is "the echo chamber of progressive ideas and vision." As such, this is a representative story that fulfills the affirmation that its commentators and viewers seek; and ... More »

Interesting well-researched article with numerous links to document the information gathered from credible sources. The story is a compilation on recent information learned about Palin on environmental issues, ultra conservative groups opinion about her, women's issues, troopergate, her contradictions on the bridge to nowhere, relationship with recently indicted Ted Stevens, and the debt she ran up as mayor. The article also reports on recent polls that show Palin is hurting the McCain ticket with undecided voters. Good article that provides a lot of information.

Clearly presented information about Palin's suitability for VP nominee and proof to back it up from newspapers in Alaska and knowledgeable public officials. Much food for thought here.

This extensive compilation of concerns about GOP VP pick Sarah Palin is well-researched and offers many helpful links to factual evidence about this surprise candidate. But this report from an actively partisan publication lacks fairness and balance, in that it mostly focuses on the candidate's weaknesses, rather than her strengths. Informative article nonetheless.

This opinion piece has minimal journalistic value. It is a pure attack piece that has little regard for accuracy. Gov Palin is not a right-winger: look at her success in fighting U.S. oil companies, her veto of a bill denying medical benefits to gay partners, etc. It ignores her major international accomplishments, such as negotiating the $28 billion gas pipeline with Canada, more than Obama or Biden have done. She helped her sister when the estranged husband tasered their son and threatened to kill their father. Etc.

This article is horribly skewed. Case in point, over 31,000 scientists signed a petition www.petitionproject.org stating man is not responsible for climate change. CO2 data doesn't correlate with global temperature swings but better correlates to solar activity. Palin's just better at science than the writer. In the top cop firing, the brother in law threatened to assasinate her father. The top cop, who serves at the pleasure of the gov, abused his position by protecting the threatening cop (how many times have we seen this scenario?!!!). He failed her trust and should be removed. In abortion, Palin has deep moral convictions that all life is sacrid, but sides with the mother when a choice of life has to be made. She is ... More »
