Despite being a woman, Sarah Palin doesn't get my vote

On the Sunday morning programme, an American female commentator claimed that McCain's choice of vice-presidential candidate, Sarah Palin - the anti-abortion, anti-gay rights, pro-oil drilling and advocate of teaching of creationism in schools - was hugely exciting "because she's a woman".

Is gender really more important than policies? Maybe I'm just a silly girl who doesn't understand anything but I always thought the reason we wanted to see a ... Full Story »

This does not give much information at all, but the thoughts are worthwhile.

Ms. Freeman writes an editorial that is, in turns, stingingly funny satire and straightforward, rational, scathing indictment. Sarah Palin and the women who might vote for her simply because she's a woman are the objects of Ms. Freeman's rational attack. She makes the case that no woman should vote for a woman (like Palin) who is against the causes dear to women. This article is a funny, rational pleasure (but then, I agree with her).

That's right, she is just a silly girl. Obviously the author wouldn't vote for a Republican in 100 years, so why does she bother preaching to the choir. A lot of unsupported claims. Just because she is a member of an organization that may have some opinion on creationism doesn't mean she favors it.

An opinion piece that has logical consistency and emotional appeal. Pa;in was a purely political choice and an insult to the average American woman.

This opinion piece has minimal journalistic merit. The author simply vents her hatred for any woman who thinks differently from her. There was no fact checking, or they would have cut out the accusation that Gov Palin wants creationism taught in schools, something that simply is not true, as the ardent anti-creationist Charles Johnson, among others, has shown.

This is a good story written by a reporter with brains. I'd like to know who the suck up female commentator was who claimed Sarah Palin is an exciting choice. Freeman has it right and it a stupid and scary choice. It is still early days but there are going to be a slew of stories about poor Palin. She has already covered up and lied about things in her past. There are several reasons she is being investigated not only the one about her trying to get her ex brother in law fired. She is the antithesis of Hillary Clinton and Palin actually worked for Pat Buchanan when he was running for president. Pat is probably the most nasty and disgusting man in politics, or was at the time. He's been overshadowed by other Republicans and nutty ... More »

A solid statement of why a female vice-president would not necessarily be a victory for women, and a good examination of why one should vote for a candidate on the basis of one issue.
