Not particularly news worthy, but it's informative.

As a highly intelligent man myself, who failed to finish college despite repeated effort over several years, I can read this article with personal understanding and comprehension of the issues affecting able and productive students, who really do not find the proper support, in companies, schools, or life. To my way of thinking, it is a tragic and terrible waste, but this is the very first article I have seen which addresses this topic of underachievement with a bit of concern or explanation.

This article does not rely on research-based information to provide a balanced perspective on the needs of gifted students. Much of the opinion asserted by this article has, in fact, been denounced by careful research. Acceleration is a viable-- and often necessary-- alternative for highly gifted students. Further, the author fails to understand that the gifted population he describes is not a cohesive group whose needs can be addressed by a single approach. Highly gifted students can be several standard deviations from moderately gifted students. It should go without saying that these two groups will have very different needs. This author has done a disservice to gifted students everywhere.
