The Republicans "stupid" strategy is based on the adage: "no one ever went broke underestimating the American people." Its been outrageously successful keeping special-interest lackeys in power for eight years. And given Mccain's metamorphosis, it has a chance at another four years. The current drilling debacleincluding the pitiable performance by Congressional Republicans meeting in the dark (how appropriate)masks a major land grab while the Sisters of Oil still have lackeys at the trough.
