Prop. 8 not retroactive, Jerry Brown says

Egelko does a good job of laying out the legal and constitutional issues of the proposition. I found the discussion of the impact of the ballot statements interesting and informative. I wish, however, that he'd expanded a bit on that last throwaway quote from the Catholic bishops. If that is all there was to the statement, it means the church does not consider marriages valid if the couple is infertile or older. A lot of Catholics must be living in sin, and will be surprised to hear it.
