The truth is that McCain's campaign has received $1.33 million from individuals employed in the oil and gas industry, not $2 million. Obama himself has received nearly $400,000, according to the most authoritative figures available. We find the $2 million figure is based on a mistaken calculation. Full Story »

With all that's going on in the country right now and with all the evil done by Bushies, this article is a great example of "much ado about nothing." Agreed that $638,000 is significant change to rattle around. But in light of the downward swing McCain has taken about conducting his "gentlemen's campaign", this article is scant recompense. My experience with FactCheck is that they're capable of a higher road. Or has this Silly Season turned into "getting down on our hands and knees, and looking at it from our opponent's point of view?"

FactCheck seems to occasionally be selective on which facts it decides to check, and to present some marginal questions in the worst possible light. This story is one such example. The site shows some directors were former reporters for the Wall Street Journal, which suggests an intimacy with the well endowed corporate political viewpoint. Fact checking can provide a useful function, but if the checkers are biased, then the situation may be worse than before the checking. Caution is advised. There are some items on their site which tend to show balance, but each check should stand on its own.
