Young citizens may not be fully aware of the contribution of Solzhenitsyn in citizen opposition to tyranny and the heritage of the Russian esamizdat communications. The obit captures some of Solzhenitsyn's complexity. The connection between the gulag archepelago and the Bush network of secret black sites for torture suggests that some aspects of history repeat themselves.
