In an editorial, I ask whether the author has presented his or her view on an important topic in a way that raises interesting points and without undue distortion to prove the point and in an engaging style. As such, this qualifies as a good piece of opinion journalism. I like the set up in this piece, by one of the NewsTrust hosts, as well as the message and the conclusion. But, while Finnie was persuasive in favoring law over war, I'm not sure the grounds that she argued pertain. In my experience, the greatest advocates for war are those who have managed to escape any military duty, rather than resist it, or like McCain and Kerry and Gore before him, embrace it. Those who have served know first-hand the destruction war entails. Those who resist it can imagine it. Carpenters have more than hammers and thus warriors have other tools, too...And while John McCain's demonsstrated respect for the rule of law has been diminished by appealing to Bush's base, so has Obama's, witness telecom immunity. Since, the current NewsTrust system penalizes editorials on balance and fairness, I chose not to enter a grade for sourcing, because it did not pertain.
