Stuck with rising competition from Internet-mediated news, traditional media have been reaching out to Web-savvy citizen journalists to expand their online audiences. The Christian Science Monitor's attempts to turn an ad for MSNBC's contest into an analysis of the so-called citizen journalism are mediocre. Sourcing is fair but uninventive. Where are all the media critics? And why so much from the Huffington Post, dare I say the establishment among non-professional news organizations? I think the Monitor's questions would have been better answered by a more astute array of media observers and on-the-ground bloggers.

The last sentence of this story is a concern. Traditional journalism should include editors and follow rules. Citizen journalism often has neither and editor or rules to follow. OK, television and radio often appear to not follow rules and if there is an editor he/she must be a sleep.

It is quality journalism because it includes diversity of sources and is relatively impartial.

I think that citizen journalism is a current trend that increasingly is being imposed more, but not replace traditional journalism, but rather complement to give greater closeness and some different nuances

No es precisamente una noticia merecedora del Pulitzer, pero el tema es interesante, ya que afecta a todos aquellos usuarios de Internet que escriben noticias en la Web, y que pueden darse cuenta de lo que es posible conseguir de esta manera.

Bajo mi punto de vista, el periodismo ciudadano enriquece al periodismo profesional de toda la vida, siempre y cuando no se confundan los caminos, es decir, queden bien delimitados los límites de uno y otro, y cual es su finalidad.
