Informative story on philanthropist Warren Hellman's support of a new local journalism venture in the San Francisco Bay Area. This news report is factual and fair, though it primarily quotes stakeholders in the new venture -- with few independent perspectives besides the SF Chronicle's publisher. Nonetheless, it's a timely story about a promising new development.

I applaud the approach taken for this new venture, which apparently will leverage the work of experienced journalists with the added resources of local public broadcaster KQED, journalism students at UC Berkeley along with possible contributions from the NY Times. This distributed network of contributors has the potential to give more impact to the overall publication and I wish them well for this exciting project.
