A Full Tank of Nonsense

The notion that Obama is singlehandedly, or to any significant degree, or more than most other senators, to blame for the high cost of gas is absurd in too many ways to count here. On first viewing, I thought the subject TV spot was from Jon Stewart's Daily Show. The McCain campaign commercial is fatuous and they should pull it now. Or, at least have the decency to be embarrassed by it. Here, factheck.org analyzes the ad and, with surgical precision, carves it into tiny pieces.

An accurate, scathing article that debunks McCain’s latest TV spot as ‘absurd’. This ad insults intelligence by blaming Obama for price gouging at the pump. Beyond brainless, it’s nothing more than an example of deliberately lying to mislead voters. The tragedy is that it’s bound to succeed with his constituency. Shall we never be rid of the Cheney-Bush syndrome?.

With a snarkier tone than I'm used to from Fact Check, this nevertheless manages to skewer the latest McCain campaign ad pretty effectively. Using McCain's own words and voting record, as well as independent analysis, Novak pretty much disproves every point in the ad. Still, I'd be willing to bet the ad will gain some traction--mostly because it will get air time, and the facts will not.
